STEPS IN INSTALLING UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Here are the steps involved in installing underfloor heating:
- Surface Preparation: We isolate the perimeter of the room with peripheral strips and lay insulation on the floor.
- Installation of Heating Cables: We install electrical cables encased in plastic tubing. We ensure that the heating cables distribute heat evenly before laying the floor covering.
- Application of Self-Leveling Cement: To protect the heating cables, we pour self-leveling cement over the entire surface. The cement will accumulate the heat generated by the heating cables, and this heat will be radiated throughout the room.
- Thermostat Installation: We replace the thermostat.
- Electrical Connections: We connect the heating cables to the electrical panel. We install a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for electrical safety.
- Floor Covering Installation: We install the ceramic tiles on the floor, or any other flooring of your choice.
COST-EFFECTIVE AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT
Very popular in bathrooms, underfloor heating can also be installed in all rooms of the house, including basements. Furthermore, due to their very low energy consumption (12 watts/square foot if used as the primary heating source in the room), underfloor heating allows for electricity savings.
